BATON ROUGE - Sheriff's deputies in East Baton Rouge Parish said they were initially called out for a cardiac arrest to a home where a child with dozens of bruises and bite marks was found.
Deputies arrested Michael Robertson, 46, and Lavaughn Riley, 32, of Baton Rouge in suspicion of second-degree cruelty to a juvenile in the death of their son, 8-year-old Xzayvion Riley.
Spokesperson Casey Rayborn Hicks said deputies were initially called out and told the boy's heart had stopped. Once at the hospital he was pronounced dead, and Hicks said the medical staff found 46 different bruises and bite marks on his body.
Investigators said Riley admitted to beating the child. Hicks said the victim's sibling also told them Robertson beat the boy from noon until sometime in the evening Monday, and sometimes bit the victim as punishment.
Robertson denied injuring the victim.
Rob Krieger will have more reaction from people who knew the victim tonight starting at 4 p.m.
