Deputies: Suave swindler busted after run from the law
COVINGTON- A man wanted for a series of smooth-talking heists in the Baton Rouge area was taken down in St. Tammany Parish Monday.
Deputies arrested Shane Richey, 42, of Maurepas, after a pursuit.
Before his arrest, Richey was wanted in Baton Rouge and Ascension Parish on various theft charges. He was also wanted in Mississippi.
This week, deputies near New Orleans were called to a bank where it was reported that Richey was trying to cash a stolen check. They realized he was also driving a stolen vehicle, and had to chase Richey before he crashed and was apprehended a spokesperson for the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office said.
In Ascension Parish, Richey is accused of taking vehicles on test drivers and stealing them. On one occasion, he is accused of selling a pickup to another person after not returning it to the car lot.
