A Ponchatoula resident arrested in suspicion of driving drunk told deputies he had also left his nine-year-old child home alone, according to authorities.
52-year-old Charles Baughman was arrested by Tangipahoa Sheriff’s deputies on Sunday. Investigators said he was driving recklessly on highway 442, and that he smelled strongly of alcohol.
When deputies arrested Baughman in suspicion of DWI, they said he told them he had left his nine-year-old child at home alone.
Deputies contacted a relative of Baughman’s and had them go to his residence to check on the child; when deputies arrived the child was fine and with a caretaker.
Baughman faces charges of DWI, driving under suspension and for improper lane usage. Deputies also said this is the third DWI charge Baughman has received in the past ten years.
