Deputies release video of speeding cars connected to double murder
DONALDSONVILLE - Deputies believe a home surveillance system captured two cars speeding away from a double-murder scene Monday afternoon.
Benny Booker, 29, and Chad Nichols, 37, were found dead on Latino Drive around 3:30.
Investigators believe the killers drove away in Booker's white, 2007 Dodge Magnum sedan. Video shows the Magnum and a BMW quickly driving away from the area.
Authorities said Nichols was found in the yard and Booker in the street. It was not immediately clear what may have led to the deadly shooting.
The Magnum has a Louisiana license plate number: YPC 682.
People with information are asked to call the Ascension Parish Sheriff' Office at 225-621-4636.
The killings happened a week after a sheriff's deputy was shot in the hand pursuing theft suspects on St. Patrick Street and another unrelated shooting where a teenager was shot in the face over stolen items. Because of violence last week, the community planned a crime vigil for Monday evening. It was set to take place 90 minutes after the shooting, at 5 p.m.
"There has never been crime like there is now; I'm seeing stuff I've never seen before," said resident Steve Miles.
"This city needs prayer," the vigil's organizer, Tamiko Francis Garrison said in an interview last week. Garrison said she was rattled by the violent crime wave that appears to be taking over the streets of Donaldsonville.
