Deputies: Man caught with 100 old meth labs
BATON ROUGE - Sheriff's deputies arrested an East Baton Rouge Parish man this afternoon after they said he was found with 100 used meth labs in his apartment.
Detectives arrested Christopher Helmke, 32, in suspicion of narcotics possession and creating a clandestine lab.
Casey Rayborn Hicks with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office said probation and parole officers notified deputies about the find at an apartment on 16623 Missionary Ridge.
They said more than 100 "shake and bake" style bottles which were now old, inactive labs were found inside the apartment, along with 12 grams of packaged methamphetamine.
HazMat crews and a private cleaning company were called to the scene, and people living in the condos evacuated.
Hicks said the investigation is ongoing, and more charges may be pending.
News 2 crews are on the scene and will have more about what the sheer amount of meth in the apartment means for the people living there tonight at 10 p.m.
