Deputies identify WBR shooting victim
PORT ALLEN - Investigators identified a man who died after they said he was shot last night in West Baton Rouge Parish and driven to East Baton Rouge Parish to try and get to a hospital.
Col. Richie Johnson with the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office said Leon Banks, 37, of Plaquemine died from his injuries last night.
Deputies arrested Alfred Watts III, who was in the car with Banks, after Johnson said they found marijuana and a gun in the vehicle. Johnson said investigators do not believe he shot Banks, though.
Investigators said the shooting happened around 8:40 p.m. Wednesday at the Port Allen Walmart parking lot. A car with Banks and Watts inside drove into Baton Rouge, where police stopped them on Florida Blvd. and North 22nd.
Johnson said EMS took Banks to Baton Rouge General Mid-City, where he died.
Deputies have not arrested anyone in connection with Banks' death yet.
