Deputies identify man found dead in flooded parking lot
GONZALES - Sheriff's deputies in Ascension Parish identified a man found dead in a flooded parking lot Wednesday afternoon as Danny Deville, 56.
Deville was from Melville, deputies said. He was found outside the business he worked at on Babin Road around 4:30 p.m.
Deputies said the business closed before noon, and when the owner went out to check the flooded parking lot around 4:30 p.m. they found the body under a vehicle.
Chief Deputy Tony Bacala said they believe the man was trapped by rushing floodwater.
"Water was flowing swiftly across the parking lot and the water was probably 12 to 18 inches deep. There is a strong likelihood the deceased man slipped, fell, and was swept under the vehicle but it is too early in the investigation to make a definitive conclusion," he said.
