GROSSE TETE - Sheriff's deputies identified the man who died after jumping into a bayou during a pursuit by authorities last week.

The man is 25-year-old Henry A. Neely. He fled after Iberville police found counterfeit money in the car he was riding in.

Deputies pulled over a vehicle on Dec. 6 around 1 a.m. on I-10 East for a traffic violation. They arrested the driver, Elesha D. Gunn of Texas, but said the male passenger took off into the woods.

Investigators got a tip the man was seen in the Grosse Tete area, and when they cornered him he jumped into Bayou Grosse Tete and quickly went under the water.

Authorities said they found around $2,500 worth of counterfeit money in the vehicle, and charged Gunn with monetary instrument abuse.
