Deputies: Home invasion likely related to drugs
HAMMOND - Investigators believe a deadly home invasion earlier this week may be related to illegal drug activity.
There were drugs inside the apartment where Brandon Sims, 30, was murdered on June 9. An unidentified person smashed through the back door and got into a shootout with Sims, who was shot.
"Due to this information and additional evidence collected from the scene, detectives are identifying several different angles for motive. One of these angles strongly suggests this case as a narcotics related incident relative to suspicious drug activity," a spokesperson for the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office said in an emailed statement Wednesday.
The shooting happened on Bailey Drive. The gunman is still at large.
