PONCHATOULA- Deputies will likely maintain a presence at the city's high school Wednesday, a day after a student's mother was shot and killed.

Deputies said another student at the school is wanted as a person of interest in the death of April Vanderlinden, 39. Vanderlinden was shot at her home about two miles from the high school Tuesday morning.

For the entire school day Tuesday, the high school was on lockdown and evening activities at the campus were cancelled.

Authorities are searching for Ryan Pourciau, 18.

Investigators said he and the victim's daughter, who was not named, are connected.

"The information gathered since this morning... [shows] Ryan knows the daughter," Sheriff Daniel Edwards said.

"We have classified this as a homicide," Edwards added.

Vanderlinden was shot on Brookfield Drive, off Esterbrook. She was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

"I can't say I'm totally surprised because this thing had been escalating for a while and when the family said they'd taken out a bond, I was like 'yeah right;' I've seen too many times where that really doesn't seem to do any good," a neighbor said.

The Vanderlinden family had a restraining order against Pourciau.
