Deputies arrest accused marina crook
NEW ROADS - Sheriff's deputies booked a man into jail on burglary charges Thursday.
John Thomas Jones is charged with three counts related to thefts in the parking lot of a bar and marina over Memorial Day weekend. Bond was set at $45,000 for the thefts, which included cookies.
Deputies said Jones was seen on surveillance video at the Sandbar Marina, where he took items and then attempted to sell them online. Investigators said among the items believed to be stolen are a wakeboard, kneeboard, a Lowrance fish finder, ice chest and two cases of cookies.
Jones originally claimed he was trying to play a practical joke on friends, but it went awry. Deputies did not buy his story.
