DENHAM SPRINGS - The Denham Springs City Council is considering an ordinance that would create two classes of reserve police officers.
One class - reserve patrol officers - could conduct patrols and help to maintain order and control traffic at school and other civic functions, under the proposal.
The other class - reserve desk officers - would book people who are arrested, handle bonding for people who are arrested, assist the communications division and process walk-in complaints at police headquarters.
For liability reasons, the city doesn't allow reserve officers who have not completed training to go on patrol.
A public hearing on the proposed ordinance will be held March 26.
