BATON ROUGE - A 44-year-old Denham Springs man has been sentenced in Baton Rouge to eight years in prison after pleading guilty to possession, receipt and attempted receipt of child pornography.

David L. Whitehead was also ordered by U.S. District Judge James J. Brady on Thursday to serve 10 years of post-prison supervision by federal investigators.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Cam T. Le objected to the sentence, noting that federal guidelines called for a prison term of at least 14 years.

Le said Whitehead once was charged in state court for the alleged molestation of a 4-year-old child. In a plea bargain, that charge was dropped.

Whitehead pleaded guilty to second-degree battery in the Livingston Parish case and was sentenced to two years' probation.
