DENHAM SPRINGS- Automated garbage trucks are expected to hit the streets of Denham Springs in the next few months. The system will bring more efficiency and larger trash cans to the community.

"When you gain some efficiencies you can also pass on those savings to the community and we're going to do that by lowering our rate from $18.48 per home per month to $18," said Calvin Ray, General Manager with Allied Waste.

Denham Springs is one of the last communities in the area to make the switch from manual to automated pick up.

"I think it's gonna make the city look better, everything will be uniform, we won't have to worry about all these cans that are on the side of the roadway or maybe in the roadway," said Jeff Wesley, who lives in Denham Springs.

The new trash cans are expected to hit the streets by November, with full automated service to trash and recyclables beginning in the next few months.
