NEW ORLEANS - A Denham Springs woman was sentenced to 30 months in prison after she was found guilty of embezzling more than $600,000.

41-year-old Kristin Koenig (also known as Kristin Barnes) was sentenced Tuesday following a guilty plea to one count of bank fraud.

Koenig was hired to do accounting work for a Jefferson Parish business. From Sept. 2011 to July 2014, Koenig embezzled $601,822 from her client by forging her name on company checks and manipulating internal computer/account records, according to the Department of Justice.

She also embezzled more than $21,000 from another client, adding to her own personal account.

In addition to 30 months behind bars, Koenig was sentenced to five years of supervised release and must pay full restitution.
