DENHAM SPRINGS - A Denham Springs bar will be featured on Spike TV's show "Bar Rescue" Sunday evening.

Big Mike's Bar and Grill, located on Aspen Square, suffered severe damage from the August flood of 2016. The establishment took on almost six feet of water and lost around $250,000 in total damages. Almost 7 months later, the owner of Mike's, Mike O'Neal, said he's grateful for the show's assistance in getting his business back up and running.

"I don't know how long it would have taken us to open," O'Neal said. "So it was a life-saver, absolutely a life-saver."

One of O'Neal's employees had the idea to send an email to the show "Bar Rescue" following the flood. The show is well known for transforming struggling bars around the country. Lucky for O'Neal, the show decided to make an appearance in southern Louisiana. O'Neal said he was surprised when he found out his bar was going to be featured on the show.

"You know we were very familiar with the show, but to think that you're never going to be on it and never be chosen. My wife and I remember we were in the car when we high-fived each other," O'Neal said.

The show worked for 24 hours a day from Wednesday to Sunday in October of last year to completely remodel the entire building. O'Neal said that he's especially appreciative for the opportunity especially since his home was flooded as well.

"But to do what they did in such a short period of time was absolutely amazing," O'Neal said. "And Jon Taffer said it was the biggest bar he has every rescued in the history of bar rescue because we're almost 11,000 square feet."

The show featuring Mike's Bar and Grill will air on Spike TV on Sunday, March 26th, at 9 p.m.
