DENHAM SPRINGS- The Denham Springs City Council has approved a budget that decreases spending by 3 percent for the coming fiscal year.
The city's projected revenue of $21.1 million is slightly down from the current year, mainly due to lower revenue expectations from utilities.
Even with the decrease in spending, the city faces a situation in which revenues are projected to be more than $1 million less than expenses.
That's mainly due to depreciation of infrastructure.
The 3 percent budget reduction applies to both the total budget and to the general fund budget of $10.5 million for the fiscal year that begins July 1.
The general fund budget lowers spending for the police department by $153,909. The decrease mainly reflects a cut in spending for vehicle purchases.
