Democrats don't endorse in governor's race
BATON ROUGE - Little-known Democratic candidates for governor made their pitches to the party's top leadership, hoping to get a bump for their candidacies against Republican incumbent Bobby Jindal.
The Democratic State Central Committee didn't endorse any of the four Democrats in the race, after being unable to woo a well-funded challenger to Jindal - or even a slate of candidates for all statewide positions in the Oct. 22 races.
Party Chairman Buddy Leach says the lack of an endorsement Saturday wasn't unusual because there are multiple Democratic candidates in the race.
Party leaders urged the Democratic faithful to help those Democratic candidates who did sign up and to remain confident that the party can rebuild after losing a slew of positions, including the majorities in the state House and Senate.
