BATON ROUGE – Thousands are still without power Wednesday after storms and historic flooding downed powerlines and damaged substations.

As of 7 p.m. Wednesday, nearly 11,000 Entergy customers and 5,300 DEMCO meters are without power. The vast majority of customers without power are in East Baton Rouge, Livingston and Ascension Parish.

According to Entergy, more than 4,700 customers in East Baton Rouge Parish, nearly 2,800 customers in Livingston Parish, and more than 1,600 customers in Ascension Parish still do not have power.

Here is a list of the hardest hit areas by ZIP CODE for Entergy customers:

Denham Springs – 70726 – 1,896 customers

Baton Rouge – 70816 – 1,162 customers

Baton Rouge – 70815 – 1,130 customers

Prairieville – 70769 – 1,018 customers

DEMCO reported Wednesday that crews have made considerable progress in restoring power to residents as flood water started to recede.

DEMCO spokesperson David Latona said system outages peaked at 28,000 Tuesday. Still, there are thousands of customers that still need power.

"We appreciate the patience of our members during this very stressful time," Latona said. "Be assured that we are doing everything possible to achieve 100 percent restoration, although some pockets within some communities may take a little more time as we work through a variety of challenges that come with a historic flood event."

Entergy reports that crews are working around the clock to restore power to affected areas.

“If floodwaters did affect their home’s electrical systems, then homeowners may need to hire licensed professionals to make sure their systems are ready to go before Entergy can act,” a statement from Entergy said Wednesday.

Entergy said crews from Arkansas, Mississippi and Texas are arriving in south Louisiana to help restoration efforts.
