Delgado, Nunez community colleges to lay off staff
BATON ROUGE - Delgado Community College in New Orleans plans to lay off more than a hundred employees, including dozens of faculty members, while Nunez Community College in Chalmette also is letting go staff.
Both moves were approved Wednesday by the schools' governing board and come as the campuses seek to offset ongoing budget cuts.
Officials say 115 employees were notified of the layoffs at Delgado, including 64 faculty members. The layoffs are effective June 3.
At Nunez, a spokeswoman says about 15 people are losing their jobs. The contracts of two faculty members end with the close of the semester, May 22; The other staff positions end June 30.
In addition to the layoffs, Delgado is cutting 15 academic programs.
