BATON ROUGE- The Livingston Parish Council called for an investigation into e-mails deleted by a former council employee.

Mary Kistler resigned from the council last year and took a job as an assistant to Livingston Parish President Layton Ricks.  Kistler contacted a computer contractor to help erase files, and the parish was billed nearly $400 dollars for the work.

The parish council met in executive session about the issue Thursday night, and unanimously voted to ask the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office and the district attorney's office to investigate Kistler's actions.  Some council members also raised questions about the content of the deleted e-mails.

Parish President Layton Ricks is standing by Kistler, and says he has not received any information indicating his assistant did anything wrong.  Ricks is urging the public to hold judgment until any investigation is complete.

Sheriff's officials say they have not formally received the investigation request.
