Defense rests in Nelson trial
BATON ROUGE - The defense for former New Road Mayor Tommy Nelson has finished calling witnesses in his federal bribery trial in Baton Rouge.
Attorney Page Pate rested his case after questioning FBI agent Darin McAllister about his involvement in the Operation: Blighted Officials investigation of Nelson.
McAllister said he posed as a businessman during the investigation, and Pate asked about trips and favors he offered Nelson, specifically saying Nelson turned them down. McAllister admitted he offered Nelson a hunting trip and that Nelson turned it down, but that it was because of a schedule conflict.
Attorneys in the case are discussing how the jury will be charged in the case, and will likely do closing statements tomorrow.
