BATON ROUGE - Opening statements started this morning in the trial of two men accused of killing a pair of LSU grad students in nearly six years ago.
Casey Gathers and Michael Lewis face life sentences if they're convicted of killing Kiran Kumar Allam and Chandrasekhar Reddy Komma, who were shot to death at an apartment complex near campus in December 2007.
Prosecutors said today Allam's wife plans to testify, and warned the jury there would not be a "smoking gun" in this case.
Defense attorneys called the case a "runaway train," and said testimony provided to investigators doesn't match the physical evidence.
News 2 will have more on today's proceedings tonight.
