Deepak Chopra to counsel Essence Festival participants
NEW ORLEANS- A new face will be among those counseling Essence Festival participants as part of this year's empowerment experience.
Spiritual and self-help expert, Dr. Deepak Chopra, for the first time, joins the festival's daytime lineup which also includes the Rev. Al Sharpton, Iyanla Vanzant, Sybrina Fulton and Shaun T for the annual event which will be held Thursday through Sunday in New Orleans. Admission is free.
Essence Editor-in-Chief Vanessa De Luca says Chopra's presence makes "perfect sense" for their audience. She says spirituality has always resonated for the Essence audience and organizers worked to offer more opportunities along those lines when developing the programming for this year's workshops.
Chopra is scheduled Saturday to discuss Peace is a Lifestyle, a new initiative to help with conflict resolution.
The daytime experience is only part of the festival, which also has nightly, ticketed performances inside the Superdome.
