COLUMBUS, OHIO- The governor of Ohio rejected clemency for a condemned killer despite a rare plea from a prosecutor for a life sentence without parole. Billy Slagle stabbed his neighbor to death in 1987 and his lawyers have long argued for clemency since he was 18 and a drug addict and alcoholic who had a chaotic upbringing. Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Tim McGinty says his office changed its approach to capital punishment and says he doubts he could obtain a death sentence for Slagle under today's law.
