Deadly wreck investigated in Clinton
CLINTON - State police said an Amite man died and nine people were hurt in a three-vehicle wreck Tuesday morning in East Feliciana Parish.
Troopers said 51-year-old James McFadden III died in the wreck on Plank Road north of LA 959 around 8 a.m.
Investigators said an 18-year-old man from Slaughter was going north on LA 67 in a pickup when he crossed the center line into oncoming traffic. Troopers said the truck sideswiped an SUV before hitting McFadden's truck head-on.
State police said McFadden was properly restrained but died at the scene. One person in McFadden's pickup and five people in the SUV, including children on their way to school, were sent to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital with moderate to severe injuries according to emergency responders. Troopers said the 18-year-old and his passenger also went to OLOL with moderate injuries.
Investigators said toxicology samples were taken from all the drivers, but impairment isn't suspected to be a factor.
State police said the crash is still under investigation and charges are pending.
