Deadly evening on area highways
BATON ROUGE- Two people died on highways in the area Tuesday night.
Ramsey A. Ogwynn, 25, of Sorrento was killed in a crash on LA Hwy. 931 east of LA Hwy. 44 in Ascension Parish. State Police said Ogwynn crossed into the path of another car and was hit.
Despite being properly restrained, Ogwynn suffered fatal injuries. Two people in the other vehicle, including a three-year-old, had only minor injuries.
Investigators are not sure what caused Ogwynn to drift into traffic but said impairment is not suspected.
Matthew G. Allen, 34, of Plaquemine died a few hours later when he lost control of his truck and crashed on LA Hwy. 75 at Bayou Sorrel in Iberville Parish. His truck flipped several times as it left the roadway.
State Police said Allen was not restrained and are not sure if he was impaired. A toxicology sample was taken from Allen and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
