A man from Independence is dead after a car crash in Livingston Parish. It happened Monday night on Mary Kinchen Road north of Albany.

Deputies say 20-year-old Brooks Newell's vehicle hit a tree. They say he was trapped inside until first responders arrived. Newell was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
