Deadline for Texas Brine to make offers
BAYOU CORNE- In Assumption Parish, time is almost up for neighbors of a giant sinkhole to get a buyout settlement from Texas Brine.
A federal judge gave the company until 5:30 today to come up with settlement offers for people who don't have lawyers. As of today 92 offers were made, and a total of 44 were accepted according to a company spokesperson.
Many homeowners say they're ready to give up the fight and put this behind them.
"My place was never up for sale. Never! I planned to pass away right here at this place from old age," said Nick Romero.
Texas Brine asked the judge for an extension for those who don't settle by end of the day.
After today, Texas Brine will no longer be able to talk with residents involved in the buyouts. Those residents will have to get an attorney.
