Deadline for early voting approaching

BATON ROUGE - The Secretary of State's Office reminded voters today that the deadline to register for the upcoming Oct. 19 election is approaching.

The last day to register for the October election is Wed., Sept. 18 for people who've never registered to vote, as well as voters who want to make changes to their registration.

The Oct. 19 vote includes the 5th Congressional District race, which affects voters in West Feliciana Parish as well as parts of East Feliciana, St. Helena, and Tangipahoa parishes.

Municipal elections will be held in East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Livingston, St. Helena, St. John, Tangipahoa, and West Feliciana Parish.

People can register online at the state's Geaux Vote website, their parish's Registrar of Voters, at the Office of Motor Vehicles while getting other services, public assistance agencies, public schools, colleges and libraries and by mail.

The Secretary of State's Office also released a smartphone app which lets voters check the status of their registration, review sample ballots and find polling place information.
