Dead bear in Avoyelles Parish
AVOYELLES, LA - State wildlife and fisheries officials are searching for evidence in the illegal killing of a black bear in Avoyelles Parish.
On October 8, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries was informed of the dead black bear in the woods near the Grassy Lake Wildlife Management Area. The animal was then found and sent in to be examined. After the postmortem examination, it was clear that the bear was shot in the head and had been dead for five to six days.
The Humane Society and wildlife department are offering a cash reward up to $8,000 for information that leads to arrest and conviction in the death of the animal. Anyone with information can call the Louisiana Operation Game Thief hotline at 1-800-442-2511. Callers with information can remain anonymous.
