WEST MONROE- A 20-year-old daycare worker is accused of biting a 5-month-old boy on the cheek.
Alexis Binford of West Monroe was booked into the Ouachita Parish jail Wednesday on one count of cruelty to a juvenile.
The baby's father told police Tuesday that his son had been bitten on the cheek, according to an arrest affidavit.
It said Binford gave deputies several accounts. At first, she told deputies she accidentally bit the boy while playing with him, but later said she bit him because she could not make him stop crying, and felt overwhelmed.
The center's director told investigators that Binford was alone with several children, the oldest of whom had only two teeth.
"Photos of the bite injury show a bite mark to the child's
cheek and it is clear there are more than two teeth marks on the child's face," the statement said.
The arrest affidavit notes that Binford called West Monroe
police in November and said a boyfriend had injured her child. It also said that she told the police her child had been bitten on her ear, but that she did not know who bit the child.
She was asked about that incident, and denied hurting her child, the statement said.
It was not immediately clear whether Binford had an attorney.
