BATON ROUGE - If you have tried diet after diet without success, the professionals at Pennington Biomedical Research Center don't want you to give up hope.
The DASH diet was designed to prevent the development of high blood pressure, but also is proven to improve lipid profiles and reduce the risk of diabetes. The key is to consume between 1,500 and 2,400 calories a day. It calls for an increase in fruit, vegetables and fat-free dairy products, as well as a decrease in sodium consumption.
The DASH Diet has been named the healthiest diet in the United States each of the last five years. Pennington Biomedical Research Center was one of four sites in the country to test the DASH Diet before it hit the market twenty years ago.
