BATON ROUGE- Lt. Governor Elect Jay Dardenne will be sworn into office at a 4 p.m. ceremony today.

Dardenne's first assistant, Tom Schedler, will take over as Louisiana Secretary of State. He will also be sworn in during the same ceremony.

Dardenne waited a few extra days to switch offices, saying that allowed the state to avoid a costly special election to replace him as secretary of state. Both Dardenne and Schedler face elections again next fall.
