BATON ROUGE - Hundreds of law enforcement officers from out of town made their way to Baton Rouge over the past week to pay their respects to the three officers killed in an ambush earlier this month.

Among that group was Dallas Police Department officer Chris Langlois who has close ties to Baton Rouge.

There have been eight funerals for officers killed in the line of duty in the past month, and Langlois has been attendance at half of them.

The DPD Senior Corporal is a Central High alum, LSU graduate and Tiger Band member. This week he was back in Baton Rouge for an almost unimaginable trip.

"When they confirmed that three officers were killed, I sent a text to my sergeant and said that I want to be in Baton Rouge; I need to be in Baton Rouge," Langlois told News 2's Brett Buffington.

Langlois watched the pain pouring out in 2 cities. He cherished the moments of community and concern for officers' safety in the past few days.

"We've had food delivered," he explains. "More hugs given, more hugs offered, more handshakes, more thank you's. The outpouring has been a tremendous counter to the pain we had to endure."

Dallas Police officers were in Baton Rouge for the funerals of Matthew Gerald, Brad Garafola and Montrell Jackson. Those services served as closure for both Langlois and the families.

"When they close the casket and you hear his mom cry in a dead silent church with 3,000 people, and all your hear is his mom crying and that's the only sound," he says.

A sound both cities won't soon be heard again. Langlois hopes the services will help people heal.

"You walk in the door not knowing anything about him other than that he's a hero, but you hear the stories, and you learn about that guy, and that's what helps make it a little bit better," Langlois says.
