Cuba oil dreams about to sail away
Cuba's only hope of drilling for oil in deep water off the western coast is sailing away after drilling three dry holes. The Scarabeo-9's leaving is a disappointment for the government and may mean dreams of a big find are on hold indefinitely. Cuba's Ministry of Basic Industry confirms the rig's work is done and will be leaving soon. The Scarabeo was built with less than 10 percent parts from the U.S. Any more and its operations in Cuba would have triggered sanctions against the companies involved under a 50-year-old embargo imposed by the United States.
