GONZALES – Crowds gathered in Gonzales Wednesday at the Ascension Veterans Memorial Park to honor our nation’s heroes for Veterans Day

The annual Veterans Day ceremony in Gonzales kicked off at 11 a.m. at the park’s amphitheater. This year’s guest speaker was Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez.

Event organizers said music will be provided by the combined choir from East Ascension, St. Amant and Dutchtown.

Military honors will be presented by the St. Amant Navy JROTC and local veteran organizations.

The Ascension Veterans Memorial Park Committee is expected to unveil a new monument in the park to honor veterans.

The Veterans Memorial Park is located at 612 Irma Blvd in Gonzales next to the Ascension Parish Library. The event is free and open to the public.
