BATON ROUGE- The State Police Crime Lab helped break a cold case murder and two people face charges for a killing nearly 30 years ago.
It's just one of the hundreds of cases lab techs are cracking each day.
So far, there have been 935 potential matches on cases worked in the lab in 2012. In 2011, there were 826. The lab calls them "CODIS Hits."
There have been 3,294 requests made to the lab so far this year. One DNA analyst work about five a week.
As for what's on the "shelves," there are hundreds of cases dating back years- some to the 1970's.
