PORT ALLEN - Emergency crews announced they will let a chemical fire at a Port Allen storage facility continue to burn overnight, while they monitor several acetylene containers on the property.

A fire broke out around 10:30 a. m. at the Air Liquide facility on La. 190 in Port Allen.  One person was injured, and dozens of acetylene containers at the facility exploded during the fire.

Emergency crews evacuated homes in a one-mile radius around the plant.  Those people affected by the evacuation will remain out of their homes overnight.

In the morning, crews will reassess the situation and continue their efforts to put the fire out.

La. 190 remains closed in both directions around the plant.
