Crews cleaning up diesel spill off Corporate Drive
BATON ROUGE - Emergency crews spent much of Wednesday trying to clean up more than a thousand gallons of diesel which spilled near a Baton Rouge business.
The Baton Rouge Fire Department said a storage tank at Lamar Advertising on Corporate Drive spilled more than 1,100 gallons of diesel overnight, and the spill was discovered at 5:50 a.m. The tank stored fuel for the company's generators, according to BRFD.
The fire department and a private cleaning company spent several hours cleaning the fuel out of the area. State environmental officials said much of the fuel already funneled off into nearby storm drains, but they were using dams to stop the rest so it could be mopped up off the concrete and out of the soil.
Investigators didn't say how the leak started, or if the company would face any penalties for the spill.
