Crawfish prices could drop this weekend
BATON ROUGE- Crawfish prices could drop from all time highs as early as this weekend, experts predict.
Currently, boiled crawfish costs about $6.99 per pound; getting the mud bugs live runs about $4.99. The high price is blamed on the cold coupled with high demand as Mardi Gras approaches.
In freezing weather the crawfish don't move.
"They'll just sit there, you can poke 'em with a stick and they more often than not, won't even react to you," said Greg Lutz, an aquaculture scientist at LSU.
Prices will drop substantially when the weather begins to warm up.
There could be a 50-cent per pound reduction in prices this weekend.
