HAMMOND - The Louisiana National Guard says more than 160 soldiers in a Covington-based engineer company are heading to Kuwait, where they'll spend a year working in construction.

A deployment ceremony will be held Friday in Hammond for the 1021st Engineer Company, 205th Engineer Battalion, which also has detachment locations in Independence and Gonzales.

The unit will train at Fort Bliss, Texas, before going overseas. A news release said their work will include buildings, concrete, and plumbing and electrical systems.

The deployment ceremony will begin at 10:45 a.m. at the Southeastern Louisiana University Center.
