Scantily clad visitors to the jail in New York City are told to cover up with bright green T-shirts, women as well as men. The city spent $5,000 on 800 on the neon green T-shirts that are washed daily. The jail dress policy calls for visitors to wear clothing appropriate for a family gathering, including underwear. Jewelry, besides wedding rings, are discouraged. The Department of Corrections says the new policy will also catch visitors trying to smuggle contraband since the T-shirts have no pockets.
