Couple arrested for murder, arson in Tangipahoa Parish
HAMMOND- Two people accused of murder and arson in Tangipahoa Parish, are now behind bars.
Deputies arrested Ronald Berry and Heidi Leard for the death of 62 year-old Charles Ockman of Hammond.
Deputies say Leard arranged to meet Ockman to perform sexual favors for money.
They say while at Ockman's home, Berry forced his way inside, got into an argument with Ockman and forced him into a bathroom.
Berry then tied Ockman's hands behind his back, beat him and submerged Ockman's head into a partially filled bathtub, where Ockman died.
Deputies say as Berry and Leard took off, they set fire to the inside of the home.
Both suspects were booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail with second degree murder and simple arson.
