Couple arrested after toddler found in street
NEW ORLEANS - A New Orleans woman and her boyfriend were booked with child desertion after the woman's 3-year-old daughter was found wandering the streets of Algiers about 3 a.m.
Both adults admitted leaving their home at 10 p.m. Tuesday.
Sgt. Arnold Williams says 21-year-old Twynea Thomas went to work.
Her boyfriend, 26-year-old Calvin Dejean walked her there and returned to the home.
Williams says when the adults left, 3-year-old Ta-myah was asleep.
Thomas says her daughter knows how to unlock the door, but hasn't gotten out before.
The toddler was found at an intersection in Algiers.
She was not hurt.
Thomas and Dejean were booked with child desertion, a misdemeanor.
If convicted, each faces up to six months in jail and a $500 fine.
