Couple accused in infant's death due in court
BATON ROUGE - A couple accused of murder and cruelty in the death of an 11-month-old girl are due in court next month.
A status hearing is scheduled for Aug. 4 in the death of Aaliyah Heard, who investigators said died from a severe blow to her head.
Her father, 26-year-old Larry Leflore, is accused of first-degree murder in Heard's death. Police charged her mother, 28-year-old Ashley Heard, with cruelty.
According to an arrest affidavit Leflore got angry when the girl wouldn't eat her food. Investigators said the infant's six-year-old sibling told police Leflore beat Heard and threw her before putting her to bed. Heard was taken to the hospital unresponsive later, and died.
Ashley Heard's trial date is set for Aug. 17. Leflore does not have a trial date set.
