THIBODAUX - The Lafourche Parish Council is calling for stoplights at intersections of La. 3235 after seven fatal crashes in a little more than a year, including one on Monday in which two people were killed.
The council unanimously passed a measure Tuesday to request the state Department of Transportation and Development to install stoplights at La. 3235 and the Larose Connection/West 15th Street and La. 3235 and the Cote Blanche Connection/West 54th Street.
On Monday, 71-year-old Steven Bourg, of Larose, and his passenger, 63-year-old Patricia Farmer, of Galliano, were killed when Bourg ran a stop sign and pulled into the path of an oncoming truck.
Councilman Jerry Lafont said Monday's fatal wreck coupled with a Tuesday accident near the Larose Wal-Mart motivated him to author the measure.
