BATON ROUGE- City leaders decided not to discuss electing the police chief Wednesday.
During the Metro Council meeting, an agenda item to talk about changing how the chief is selected was deleted.
The mayor appoints the chief, but after Mayor Kip Holden's controversial decision to fire former Chief Dewayne White, Councilwoman Denise Marcelle has led an effort to discuss changing it.
Marcelle has asked to discuss allowing voters elect a chief.
There is a separate group talking about combining the city police force with the sheriff's office.
