Council makes decision on two temporary members
GONZALES- In an unheard of unanimous vote by the city council Wednesday night, two people were nominated for open positions on the council.
Barbara Duhe, a retired city worker, was appointed to fill the seat left vacant when Timothy Vessel was recalled earlier this month. Seventy-five percent of voters decided Vessel should be removed from office.
Vessel was one of two people targeted by a recall petition amid months of infighting on the council. A voting bloc he was a part of stalled government decisions for months. Then-councilman Gary Lacombe was also a target of the recall but resigned before the election.
The council missed its 20-day window to appoint someone to his seat. Now, the governor will appoint someone. Wednesday, the council suggested Dave Guitreau, a retired contractor.
There will be a special election on March 28th to fill the two seats until the end of the regular term.
