GONZALES- City leaders approved a change in zoning to allow for a large-scale development of land near I-10.
The Evans' property sits at the intersection of the interstate and Highway 44. It will now be zoned commercial instead of residential.
Owners hope it will become a mixed-use community with houses, apartments and stores. Neighbors were concerned about if the infrastructure of the area could handle such a development.
Recently, the planning commission approved the change but required additional oversight of plans once the complex is under construction.
